【英語 | 準中級】ライティング対策 <ある・いる>

英検3級～準2級レベルのライティング対策です。

 

今回のテーマ　「～がいる、ある」

「～がいる、ある」と言いたいとき、どう言うでしょう？

↓

There are … / There is …　

または、

主語　＋　have（has)

と表せます。

 

では、例文を考えてみましょう。

 

① 私の市には、小学校が８つあります。

1. There are eight elementary schools in my city.
2. My city has eight elementary schools.

 

②私の学校は、生徒が500人います。

1. There are 500 students in my school.
2. My school has 500 students.

 

③問題があります。

1. There is a problem.
2. I have a problem. / We have a problem.

 

④理由は２つあります。

1. There are two reasons.
2. I have two reasons.

 

㌽　There are / is を使うときのポイントは、be動詞の後に複数形の単語が来るかどうかです。be動詞の後が複数形になるとき、be動詞はareになり、単数形または不可算名詞（かぞえられない名詞 e.g. water, air, money)が来るときはisになります♪

(例)　There are some apples on the table. / There is a new supermarket.

 

 

中級以上の方↓↓

㌽　「私の猫は机の下に居ます。」のように、【私の～(my)】や【その～(the)】。というような場合は、There is/are を使わずに、My cat is under the table. としましょう。特定されないもの・人の時にthere is/are を使います。

(例）

My brothers are in the dining room. (my brothers -> 特定されている）

There are some boys in the dining room. （some boys->特定されていない）
